Remembering

22.6.2011 – 70 years since the beginning of the Nazi-Germany’s aggression on the USSR.
Peoples in the Soviet Union and many European countries had to fight for their survival and in fact for the survival of the whole civilization, because Nazi-Germany was sowing destruction by imposing fascism - totally inhumane based on hatred towards different ethnic and religious groups ideology, which praised the annihilation of so called subhumans.

Soviet, Russian people paid the heaviest price for the defeat of Nazis – over 27 million soviets lost their lives in World War II, the bloodiest war in history, which claimed tens of millions lives in Europe alone.

The Soviet Union with the support of allies and progressive forces in different countries managed to defeat the monstrous state of Nazi-Germany. This victory laid the foundation for the formation of today’s democratic European order.

Nowadays attempts to falsify the events, to rewrite history and equate victims with the aggressor become frequent in several countries. The reasons are obvious – elimination of the present world order by reviving fascism and the formation of the new world order based on the dictatorship of the very few.

At Russia’s Government Presidium meeting:

Vladimir Putin: “Today is June 22, the Day of Memory and Sorrow. The Great Patriotic War, which killed 27 million of our countrymen, began 70 years ago. We bow low before the veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Eternal memory to all those who gave their lives for the homeland, for the people and for our future.”
“With this in mind, I would like to say the following. Virtually all Russian families have suffered as a result of the Great Patriotic War – World War II. The memory of courage and the heroic feats of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, pride for the great victory and the pain of irretrievable loss pass on from generation to generation. There is no need to explain why Russian society responds with such anguish to any attempts to falsify history – the history of the Second World War, the Great Patriotic War – and to the desecration of the memory of victors. It is our duty to cherish and defend the truth about the war, the priceless experience of allied partnership and genuine heroes, whom time cannot conquer.”

Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned against the attempts to distort the outcome of World War II.
